Please spread the word. Shit like this makes me happy to be spending my time trying to become a human rights lawyer.

Just remember:

APATHY IS LETHAL.

Bless you. What a noble profession. *hugs*

I literally burst into tears when I read this. I cut off part of my basil plant and left it on my altar for this person and his family and for all past victims of hate crimes, and prayed that we won't be plagued like this in the future. I don't know how well that would go, but we can always try.

I once heard a conservative complain, "Liberals are never satisfied." Of course we aren't. As long as someone doesn't have civil rights, as long as someone is a victim of a hate crime, as long as someone is ill and can't afford health care because of the Man, as long as someone's abusing the earth, as long as animals aren't treated fairly, as long as money remains more valuable than human life to people, we can't be satisfied. It's as simple as that. And maybe we're looking for utopia. But it can't hurt to change.

Hey! Me too! I'm working for a human rights org this summer, and it's doing wonders for making me remember why I decided to torture myself with law school in the first place. It's absolutely amazing to be able to read something shittacular, like that, in the news and then go to work and sit down and have a meeting about what your org going to do about it, and then go actually help them do it.

There's one thing in the world I truly despise, and it's apathy...I can't begin to understand how people can ignore something this incredibly horrific and disturbing and just move on. subcon_ruler is right, God bless you for working to change things like this. Nothing at all wrong with trying to make the world a less hateful place.
